World of Warcraft Battleground: Eye of the Storm

This is a World of Warcraft Battleground Guide. If you are looking for ways to make gold please see Valkors Gold Guide. If you are looking for a World of Warcraft leveling guide from 1-70 please see either Horde 1-70 Guide or Alliance 1-70 Guide. Other profession and class guides can be found at Killer Guides.

The new Burning Crusade Battleground: Eye of the Storm was opened in yesterday’s patch. You start the battleground on a team of 15 trapped in some crazy netherbubble of omg I can’t get out and wait the traditional 2 minutes before the bubble collapses and releases you. Here is what the battleground landscape looks like when you start:

Immediately both factions race to any of four nodes including: Fel Reaver Ruins (bottom left), the Blood Elf Tower (bottom right), the Draenei Ruins (top right) and the Mage Tower (top left). The capturing system is time based opposed to flag based like the Eastern Plaguelands Towers. For every second you own a node you earn 2 points towards a goal of 2000.

A battleground flag is located in the middle of the map and can be picked up and brought to any of the nodes that you control for 75 battleground bonus points. When the flag is returned to a node points are tallied and the battleground flag respawns in the center of the battleground map. First team to 2000 wins.

The strategy and tactics to win involve controlling two nodes and the path from the flag spawn to one of your nodes. See you in the Outlands!

Warrior Talent Guide

Here is an overview of what talents to use as you level your Warrior along with some level 70 talent builds. The best guide to playing a Warrior I’ve found is at Killer Guides. You can always make your Warrior better by getting a lot of gold and buying the best gear, to do that I strongly recommend using Valkor’s Gold Guide for farming massive amounts of gold.

Overview

The Warrior is known for its ability to tank. It can shrug off some of the most punishing melee blows in the game. The high amount of hit points a Warrior usually has allows it to tank well against both melee and caster enemies but they truly shine on raid bosses where there is almost no substitute. They have shouts that can increase their allies damage output and they have abilities that can ensnare, interrupt, or stun their enemies. With the recent game changes Warriors are becoming in essence, a rogue in plate armor. The Fury Warrior can put out a very consistent amount of damage per second (dps) that will oftentimes top the raid dps charts in long fights.

Leveling a Warrior

If you really want to blaze through the levels check out either Brian Kopp’s 1-70 Guide (Alliance) or Joana’s 1-70 Guide (Horde)

The fastest way to level a Warrior is to dual wield with a Fury build. Once the Warrior is high enough level to get charge, all that is needed is an area with enemies spaced close enough so that when one battle ends the Warrior can immediately charge into the next fight. Repeat this process until the desired level is reached. Warriors are capable of putting out a large amount of damage and can take incoming damage like a pro, but if the Warrior is not dual wielding or at least using a 2 handed weapon, the killing will be slow.

Arms Tree

The first thing you’ll want for your Arms Warrior is Cruelty. Until you’re level 20 you will want to grab the best two-handed weapon you can find. Once you reach level 20 you can pick up two weapons and duel wield but I would recommend following the Fury tree below if you intend to do this.

LevelSkill
10-14Cruelty
15-17Heroic Strike
18-19Improved Rend
20-21Improved Charge
22Improved Rend
23-24Deflection
25-26Improved Overpower
27-29Deep Wounds
30-31Impale

Fury

These talents will set you up for being able to duel wield when you reach level 20. Make sure when you hit level 20 you already have your weapons ready so you can head to the trainer and learn Duel Wielding.

LevelSkill
10-14Cruelty
15-19Unbridled Wrath
20Piercing Howl
21-25Improved Battle Shout
26-30Duel Wield Spec
31Deathwish

Level 70 Talent Builds

2-Handed PvP 33/25/3

This PvP build focuses on two-handed weapons, Mortal Strike and Death Wish. Put 5 points into your weapon specialization of choice.

Tank Build 12/5/44

This build focuses on threat/aggro management and damage reduction. Its primary use is in PvE situations with a healer.

Warlock Talent Guide

Here is an overview of what talents to use as you level your Warlock along with some level 70 talent builds. The best guide to playing a Warlock I’ve found is at Killer Guides. You can always make your Warlock better by getting a lot of gold and buying the best gear, to do that I strongly recommend using Valkor’s Gold Guide for farming massive amounts of gold.

Overview

Warlocks are known for their ability to fear and cause a significant of damage over time on their opponents while they are running away in fear. They are capable of dealing single target direct damage blasts almost as good as a Mage. The Warlock is a very beneficial group member because it has the ability to cast Soul Stone which allows the targeted group member to come back to life for a period of time after they are killed; it’s very helpful for group recoveries after a wipe. The Warlock has several pets for different encounters, whether its tanking, incapacitating an enemy, or causing mass amounts of damage, the Warlock has a pet for the occasion.

Leveling a Warlock

If you really want to blaze through the levels check out either Brian Kopp’s 1-70 Guide (Alliance) or Joana’s 1-70 Guide (Horde)

Until the Warlock gets a minion that can tank it can be somewhat difficult to level this class in the beginning. The best thing to do is to cast DoTs on the enemies and fear them. Try to keep all but one enemy in the encounter feared or all if possible. Only one fear can be on one enemy at a time so ensure that before casting fear on another enemy that the currently feared enemy is far enough away so that when its fear breaks it can be recasted on it before it reaches the Warlock. When a tanking pet is available all the Warlock has to do to level efficiently is keep the pet alive and keep enemies away from itself.

Affliction

The Affliction tree should be renamed to the “Cast some spells and watch your enemy die slowly tree”. The Warlock can torture its victims while they flee in terror only for the fear spell to break and they die on the spot. By stacking a few Warlock damage over time spells on a target most of the Warlock’s opponents’ life will bleed away.

LevelSkill
10-14Improved Corruption
15-16Improved Lifetap
17-18Improved Drain Soul
19-20Soul Siphon
21-22Improved Curse of Agony
23-24Fel Concentration
25-26Grim Reach
27-29Empowered Corruption
30Siphon Life

Demonology

Demonology can make leveling very fast and efficient. It’s not that exciting; send pet in, cast dots, nuke, and repeat. Once the Felguard is an option through the Demonology tree, the Warlock will be capable of dominating both PvE and PvP.

Improved Voidwalker

LevelSkill
10-12Demonic Embrace
13-14Improved Healthstone
15-16Improved Health Funnel
17-19Improved Voidwalker
20Fel Domination
21-23Fel Stamina
24Improved Voidwalker
25-26Master Summoner
27-29Unholy Power
30Demonic Sacrifice

Level 70 Talent Builds

Afflication w/Shadowburn 45/5/11

This build focuses on getting another high damage over time spell from the Affliction line. It can be used for PvE and PvP but
it is most effective when all of these spells can be unleashed on the enemy without having the Warlock’s
weak pet tank. Shadowburn is added to this build for extra damage.

PvP Fire Build 7/7/47

This is a pure fire PvP build that focuses mainly on direct damage to kill foes quickly. It is a very mana intense build so be wary when attempting to take on multiple targets in a row.

Shaman Talent Guide

Here is an overview of what talents to use as you level your Shaman along with some level 70 talent builds. The best guide to playing a Shaman I’ve found is at Killer Guides. You can always make your Shaman better by getting a lot of gold and buying the best gear, to do that I strongly recommend using Valkor’s Gold Guide for farming massive amounts of gold.

  • Overview
  • Leveling a Shaman
  • Level 70 Talent Builds

Overview

Shamans are similar to Mages because they are also a master of the elements. The Shaman uses totems and spells to enhance themselves and allies and to weaken enemies in the area. They are able to wield a weapon and a shield, a two-handed weapon, or dual wield if they are setup correctly. Shamans who focus on strength and melee weapons are capable of dealing a significant amount of melee damage in combination with their totems and enhancements. They can also heal their allies, resurrect the dead, and launch bolts of lightning at their enemies causing them to beg for mercy. If geared properly they can be a main healer for a group, a main tank, or dps class.

Leveling a Shaman

If you really want to blaze through the levels check out either Brian Kopp’s 1-70 Guide (Alliance) or Joana’s 1-70 Guide (Horde)

Shamans are allowed to wear chain armor, which means they can take a decent amount of damage. One of the best ways to level a Shaman is to use a two-handed weapon and beat down enemies with it. Later on, the Shaman will be able to dual wield and can enhance its melee abilities to create a very consistent and significant amount of damage per second. If magic is preferred, the Shaman can use a variety of lightning spells in conjunction with its totems to kill enemies at a decent pace. A Shaman that can make use of its totems will find it quite easy to level in harder areas of the game.

Totem Addict

Totems can be a very effective way to level. The downside is if the Shaman is caught off guard the totems will not be up making the Shaman a very vulnerable target. Use the talents below as a guideline to get started and then start putting points into the totem enhancing skills that are working the best, it will be dependant on play style and personal preference.

LevelSkill
10-14Concussion
15-16Earth’s Grasp
17-19Call of Flame
20-24Call of Thunder
25-27Elemental Devastation
28-29Improved Fire Totem
30Elemental Fury

Melee Shaman

One of the most often overlooked ways to level is by using a melee weapon to damage enemies with the Shaman. There are just too many talents that enhance the Shamans melee abilities that it can even out damage some of the other dps melee classes, depending on their setup. Even so, the Melee Shaman should not be overlooked.

LevelSkill
10-14Ancestral Knowledge
15-19Thundering Strikes
20-22Improved Lightning Shield
23-24Enhancing Totems
25-29Flurry
30-31Improved Weapon Totems

Level 70 Talent Builds

Group/Raid PVE 0/42/19

This is the best build available for enhancing a group and/or raid while maintaining the ability to heal efficiently.
This build will also leave room for soloing if desired but is more focused on grouping and raiding.

Ultimate PvP Build – 25/36/0

This build features shortened cool downs for instant cast spells as well as melee abilities. With this build the Shaman
will be able to output a lot of damage in a very short time frame.

What are private servers like to a newcomer?

So classic wow is a lot more fun to me than retail but a lot of my friends wont play it cause of they sub. I was thinking we could play private server, something like wotlk because it seems overall the best in most regards. But there are a few things i was wondering.

Are private servers dead or well populated, are there active raid guild and pvp? Also are they the same as the wow of the time or are there major gameplay differences. Another thing ive heard is the servers are unstable and could be gone whenever. Also will i need a vpn?

When do Horde warriors replace their Axe?

I realize that there some good BoE weapons in the 40s, but there’s a trade-off there since you have to consider the value of the gold you are spending against how much better than WW axe that weapon would actually be. Obviously, this varies by economy of the server and your individual financial situation (whether it’s your first char on the server or you have a main to support you). How common is it for Ice Barbed Spear to be the item that finally gets rid of the WW axe?
